Top 5 tips – YouTube for B2B Marketing
Made Essential Reading on 20 November 2009 Richard Turrell
As the world’s leading video community, YouTube has progressed far beyond novelty status and is now a regular topic of discussion in any online marketing campaign.
The problem is that YouTube has become rather crowded. Every minute, 20 hours of video content is uploaded, so the challenge is finding a way that will get peoples attention… and shouting isn’t the answer.
1. Profile your target audience
Who do you want to watch your content? The more targeted you make your campaign the easier it is to create video content that works for your audience. It really is a case of trading off quantity for quality, just don’t narrow your target audience too far or you risk limited exposure.
2. Create original content
If you are going to dedicate time, resource and planning then make sure you are not replicating what is already available. Research your competitors and try to create something that is not only original but includes the same magic that makes your company successful.
3. Match your budget
Do not try to play outside your means as it will end up looking insincere and under produced. A small budget should never be a deterrent and instead should help you focus on a plan that is both simple and effective.
4. Share with your peers
Once you’ve uploaded your video to YouTube don’t forget to give it a helping hand. Send the video URL to all of your colleagues and encourage them to add it to their email signature. If you use social networking tools such as LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter don’t forget to share the URL with your Connections, Friends or Followers.
5. Respect your audience
Basic house keeping can make all the difference to a prospective customer so invest time ensuring your video content is effectively tagged, correctly named and typo free. Once you have uploaded content if someone subscribes to your channel, have the courtesy to return the favour and if they ask you a question, no matter how difficult it is to answer, try to answer it as best you can.
YouTube is a fantastic B2B marketing tool when managed correctly, unfortunately whilst you’ve been reading this blog another 60 hours of video has been uploaded, which has made it even more important to get it right!
